On June 24th Cars 2 hits theaters.
Adults will be taking their kids to see the cartoon cars burning rubber all over the world. The movie is the second installment in the successful Pixar and Disney series. It’s been five years since the first movie came out and just today I saw a note that Brad Paisley will have a song on the Cars 2 soundtrack.
That got me thinking about the first movie when Rascal Flatts had the big hit song.
Listen to Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts and flashback a few years to 2006…
LIfe is a Highway – Rascal Flatts
It’s funny how things work out sometimes.
Back in 2006 a few country stars contributed songs to the Cars soundtrack. All of the songs were great. Most were used in the actual movie, but one of the songs took on a life of its own as listeners kept playing and playing and playing it over and over.
Rascal Flatts’ version of Life is a Highway (originally done by Tom Cochrane) climbed the country singles charts into the top 20 without even being officially released. A few songs will make the top 40 once in a while without an official release, but cracking the top 20 is rarely if ever done.
The song is best described as super catchy. It’s just infectious. It’s impossible to not enjoy and play over and over. Rascal Flatts has always had a pop sounding country way about them. With this track they captured the feeling and fun emotion from the cartoon movie. It was perfect and people really took to it.
I remember going to the movie with a few buddies actually. We laughed at the jokes and antics of Mater and we even grooved a little nodding our heads during the part where Life is a Highway is playing.
I’m not entirely sure what makes a great country song, but if it makes a few college kids groove in their theater seats there must be something right going on.
I’m curious to see if Rascal Flatts will join Brad on the Cars 2 soundtrack.
