Eric Church released a surprise album last fall. The first single was also the title track, Mr. Misunderstood. It felt very autobiographical for Eric and became a top 15 hit on the charts. That’s not Eric’s biggest hit, but it certainly was a success and the album has been doing really well as we head into 2016.
Here is the next single from that record, Record Year.
Record Year – Eric Church
The song has a pretty cool hook. The story is about a guy that’s been left by the girl he loved. She’s gone from his life and he’s stuck at his house with nothing really to do. His life has kind of been turned upside down and he has to figure out how to move forward.
But what you learn is that the guy has been having a record year. But that’s a little play on words. The guy has been getting through the days, the hours, the minutes by spinning those old records. He has that vinyl out and he keeps turning them and listening and flipping. He’s not sure if that will turn his mood around, but he knows that he’s either going to get over her finally or that his ears are going to blow out.
This one has the feel of a hit. I’m sure it’s something a lot of people can relate to. When you go through a situation sometimes you look for something, anything that can help pass the time until you figure things out.
It sounds like a hit to me.
