Ronnie Dunn has released his first solo single in two decades and it’s already a winner on the country charts. Bleed Red is the name of the song. It’s a moving ballad about forgiveness, compassion, and kindness. The song debuted, debuted at number 30 on the country singles charts and early signs are pointing toward a big hit.
Just last year in 2010, Brooks & Dunn went their separate ways after twenty years together as perhaps the most successful group or duo in country music history. They stormed on the scene in the early ’90s with rocking country that really changed the direction of things for a while. They duo had a great run of success with both singers taking leads early on while Ronnie seemed to be more apt to sing lead later on.
There were times people wondered if Ronnie would go on his own. I think it’s a result of the friendship and energy the two had together that kept the two going and going for so long.
Now the solo record is finally hear from Ronnie Dunn, one of country’s great vocalists, and it’s a winner.
The melody of Bleed Red is slow, but building. The groove is rhythmic and persuasive. It’s a solid song made even better by the great vocal treatment from Dunn.
Over 20 years Brooks & Dunn covered just about every musical angle they could so it’s hard to say Bleed Red is a departure from anything the duo has done in the past. This is a song unlike the rocking country Ronnie is also known for. This is a song of love, inspiration and tolerance.
I think it’s a great song that could last for a long time on radio and in the memories of country fans.
