I’m late to the party on this one. Anderson East has been making news all year with his latest release. It’s got a little country on it so we’ll include the big hit song he’s had here on CML.
But you’ll notice plenty of other influences in the music. It seems like a melting pot of different genres and that’s pretty cool. I like that in country we can have a variety of different sub-genres that can all become popular.
See what you think of this one.
Satisfy Me – Anderson East
The influences on this one seem to be varied. Definitely some soul and R&B there. It reminds me a little of Marvin Gaye at points at also Jackie Wilson. That style is definitely there to my ear.
I like the upbeat nature of the song. It at least feels that way. You would have to dive a little deeper into the lyrics to see if that is really the case, but from the sound I think it’s an upbeat song.
It could be about a guy that feels his woman has been being too selfish. She’s been focusing too much on her own life and he knows that he needs a little more TLC to make him happy. Maybe he knows it’s up to him to fix his own situation so he’s moving on and looking for someone that cares about him.
I don’t know. You tell me your interpretation.
There is depth here. The sound is fresh while sounding retro. I really like it. I might have to explore more of this record. I think there might be some more interesting songs there.
CML Points: 88/100
