I don’t know if this one will be the next single from Kid Rock. But I think it would have a chance to be a hit. And that includes being a hit on country radio.
Kid Rock has been one of the rare artists that’s been able to mix between all kinds of genres. He started out in rap and them moved into the late ’90s metal scene where he really shot to superstardom. But even in those early days he showed his country roots and he’s been a part of that world ever since at least in some way or another.
It’s been cool. And this song popped up on the Wild Country playlist on Spotify and I think it would make a great country single.
Say Goodbye – Kid Rock
So this one seems to be the story of a guy kind of realizing that it’s time for things to come to an end with the one he loves. Things just have been drifting apart and it’s best for both if they go they’re separate ways.
But there is a little twist at the end where the guy expresses doubt. He wonders that if he says goodbye now that he might regret it down the road. You never know I guess. We all make the best decisions that we can at the time with the information we have.
Anyway, this one has a killer melody. Pretty mellow and introspective, but something that I think people would really relate to. And Kid Rock pulls it off well.
And there’s a story behind this one that would make it even cooler if it became a hit.
The story is that Kid Rock wrote lyrics to this one that were a little more…vulgar. That’s actually the version that appeared on the First Kiss album.
But he played it for his buddy, Bob Seger, and Bob said the melody was too good to have vulgar lyrics attached. So Bob wrote the lyrics to Say Goodbye.
Pretty cool.
