Niall Horan

I love what Niall is doing with his solo music.

I was aware that One Direction was one of the most popular music acts in the world. And truly a worldwide act, which is pretty cool.

In the country world we don’t often think about the size of the world. Not many country acts breakout outside the United States. Garth tried and succeeding some in Europe. He played some huge concerts, but even then it was still a struggle.

Taylor Swift I think has had some success with her pop music.

Just about all the One Direction members have released solo albums now. One that has stood out is the album from Niall Horan. He keeps popping up in places where my attention is focused. He loves golf and now he’s dipping his toe into country music a bit.

So the country connection here is that Niall brought in Maren Morris for this one. And they really sound great together. I love that Maren is really doing her own thing and making her own rules. She has seemed to pop up on these collaborations much more than other country artists. It’s great for country music to get this kind of exposure.

And the song is really a good one. It definitely has some elements of country music. Imagine someone like Blake Shelton or Carrie Underwood or even an act like Little Big Town or Lady Antebellum singing this one. It would be a #1 smash hit.

But I think it’s great just the way it is.

I don’t know if this will find success on the country charts, but that’s not the point. It’s already reaching country fans on streaming services and that’s pretty cool.

CML Points: 88/100
