The guys had three number one hits in 1989 alone and that year proved to be their biggest. They went on to have more hits after that year including the song we find here on Flashback Friday.
Growing up I loved the melody of Next to You, Next to Me. There is something about the song that is pure, fun, and enjoyable. It makes me smile every time I hear it on the radio. The song became a number one hit in 1990 and still remains popular on radio stations all over the country today.
Next to You, Next to Me is about a guy that loves his girl. It’s really that simple. He loves her and there is nothing else he’d rather do any day of the week than spend the night with her.
I love songs about pure country love. As fans of country music we always have that romantic interpretation of southern love – pure and simple. In some cases I suppose it’s true and I’ll believe it’s true forever.
I first heard Next to You, Next to Me when I was just a boy riding on the school bus to school. I’m not sure if the song was new on the charts back then, but if it wasn’t it was only a few years after. The song always stood out to me and it had to be the catchy melody that did it.
I still love the song today and it would be one I’d have to have with me on a deserted island if I ever got shunned away.
It’s a great country song and one I love flashing back to any day of the week.
