Shooter Jennings has a great new song and video out.
This time, though, Shooter is letting people have a glimpse at Shooter Jennings the Family Man. Shooters has been on the attack with his last few songs. There has been an edge to his music and while I think that will always be there I also think we’re in store for great songs like this one – The Deed and The Dollar.
The Deed and The Dollar – Shooter Jennings
I like this song.
Shooter is releasing a new album this year called Family Man. Over the last four years or so Shooters has settled down. He’s married. He has two kids (I think it’s two). He seems to be settling down from the raucous ways most of us live in our 20s.
Some of Shooter’s music in the past has been hard and with lots of opinionated bite. Even his most recent single and video were full of anger and frustration. I don’t think that side of Shooter will ever go away, but I think he could settle into this dad and family man role real well as he works his way through his 30s.
With The Deed and The Dollar, Shooter finds himself singing about his love wife and family. She is the one that owns him and he seems quite alright with that situation. Shooter has shown talent for songwriting in the past and I think he’ll do well with a few more tracks like this.
I also think the country audience will be more open to songs like this and that could give Shooter a little more attention when he wants to go back to writing about the things that make him angry.
The Deed and The Dollar seems like a song that has something for everyone. It’s been a while since Shooter was on the country singles charts. This could be the song or at least the type of song that gets him back there. That is, of course, if that is what he wants. It’s always kind of hard to tell with Shooter. He’s a true enigma in the country and rock world.
But the guy has his own style and I appreciate that.
I’m a big fan of this song and have high hopes for the entire album.
