This song has been around for a few weeks already. I’ve been waiting for the video to come out so I could share it with you. I like sharing the official videos or lyric videos for these songs, but sometimes the artist and/or their label teams fall behind. But maybe that’s just me being impatient. Either way, we have the video now and it was worth the wait.
Small Town Throwdown – Brantley Gilbert
There aren’t a whole lot of collaborations in country music. It’s at least not that many when you compare it to the pop and hip hop worlds. Country is more like rock music where artists pretty much stick with their own thing other than label cuts.
So it’s always pretty cool when two or more artists collaborate on an actual single. This one seemed to work out well since all three artists are on Valory, which is one of the labels under the Big Machine umbrella.
The song is good. I think what I like most about it is the anthem sound. And it has a good pop chorus that gets you singing along. You can’t help but kind of throw your fist in the air each time the chorus comes along. If you’re from a small town you’ll definitely be playing this one loud on those Friday nights out in the fields or on the backroads.
And all these artists bring something a little different to the song. Brantley is straight up hard rock style with his vocals. Thomas Rhett is a little more laid back, but with a slight edge and Justin is straight up traditional country. It all works well together.
The only thing about the song is that it’s falling right in line with quite a few country songs that have been coming out over the last few years. It’s small towns and pickup trucks and all those things. I love those things, but we’ve been hearing the same references now over and over.
But for some reason the song keeps bringing me back. I like listening to it.
