Chris Young has quietly put together a really strong career. He’s already halfway through his fifth album. It seems like it wasn’t that long ago when he was on Nashville Star. Him and Miranda both have really shown the power of that show and we can’t even forget about Buddy Jewell.
Chris is coming off back to back number one hits from this latest album and from the sounds of the next single it looks like it could be a three peat.
Sober Saturday Night – Chris Young
The hook on this one is that a guy is pretty broken up about him and his girl breaking up in the recent past. He’s lying there in bed on a Sunday morning feeling the pain. In the past this pain would have been caused from having a good time out on the town the night before. But now he’s feeling the pain after a sober Saturday night.
Chris has proven that he can pull off different types of songs, but I think he’s really his best on a song like this. It’s kind of a traditional country song both in style and in story. We have a heartbreak country song with the production pulled back so the focus is all on the emotion.
And Chris really nails it. There seems to be some truth in this one. I know he said when this album came out that this was a pretty autobiographical record. So who knows the full story behind this one…
Vince Gill is also there in the background providing harmonies on this one. It adds some great depth.
Chart Estimate: #3
