When Mary Chapin Carpenter comes out with new music I like to pay attention. I wasn’t right on the ball with noticing that she had a new album and single out recently, but I’m on board now.
This album has been out for a few weeks now. The single is out at radio and things like that. I think when I first realized that something was going on was when The Highway played one of the tracks while I was in the car.
Here is that first single.
Something Tamed Something Wild – Mary Chapin Carpenter
She sounds as good as ever doesn’t she?
This one sounds like it could have been released in the ’90s and that it would have likely been a big hit. But it also feels like it’s modern both in style and in sound. And it has that great Mary Chapin Carpenter sound that you instantly recognize.
The song seems to center around the theme of looking back on life. There are some things you’re going to look back on with regret even if you try not to think like that. You can think that all the choices you make end up making you the person you are today – both the good and the not so good.
So there’s perhaps a little bit of looking back with regret in this one, but that’s life. There seems to be some positivity as well in the lyrics and to me the story is in the melody. It’s a great, kind of rolling song that keeps you interested the entire time.
This is a good one and Mary Chapin Carpenter has delivered something wonderful for her fans.
