Brandon Lay

The next new superstar in country?

It looks like EMI Nashville has a new artist on the roster.

This song, for me, first appeared on Hot Country on Spotify. I like to check in on that each week and I think on Monday they update it with new songs. It’s like the Top 40 for country music.

This week it was Brandon Lay. And it looks like he has major label backing. That doesn’t guarantee that an artist will be a success, but when you have the backing of a major label like that it’s worth paying attention.

So let’s check out the new single from this new artist.

Speakers, Bleachers And Preachers – Brandon Lay

This song name drops Kenny Chesney and it has the feel of a Chesney song. The hook of the song is looking back on youth in America. The narrator is looking at those times in life (and the present as well) and thinking about all the lessons that came from speakers, bleachers and preachers.

Speakers in the car where you hear all those great songs.

Bleachers, where you interact with your buddies during those high school games.

And  preachers, the ones that tell you what to expect in life and how to properly act. Now, the question there is if any of us ever listen.

And that’s one of the little lessons left in this one. Brandon says that he still has a lot of growing up to do. I know that I still feel that way.

This is a good song. It has the sound of something that would work for a Chesney or Urban today.

What do you think?

Chart Estimate: #10

CML Points: 86/100
