A quick nod to CMT Edge for helping me hear about this one. I haven’t checked in on that blog for a while. I was way overdue. They have some really great music on there including this new one from a band I’d never heard about before.
Check it out.
Sweet Tennessee – Judah & The Lion
There is a pretty big folk music movement out there right now. It’s a real organic thing taking place just under the belly of popular country and mainstream music.
You get glimpses of it once in a while from acts like The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons, but there are a lot of bands just under the radar or on the edge as CMT calls it. There’s lots of cool stuff like this one from Judah & The Lion.
First, that’s a sweet name. I have no idea what it means, but it sounds cool.
Second, this is a good song. The music is cool. Again, it’s real folksy, but I like that sound right now and I know a lot of people out there do as well.
The song seems to be an ode to the state of Tennessee as you would expect. I thought maybe it would be about a girl, but I think it’s about all the things that your home state has for you from family to a girl to all the memories you have.
It’s a good song from the edge of country music.
What do you think?
