New artist and established songwriter, Sam Hunt, is making his mark on country.
Sam Hunt is changing things in country music. Well, he’s doing his best to change things. There are artists that come into Nashville looking to make their mark by doing what’s already been done. And then there are artists that try to find that new sound and that new angle to take with their lyrics and stories. I think Sam Hunt falls in the latter category. Here is a live performance from the Opry.
Take Your Time – Sam Hunt
There are a lot of things to love about this song. First, it’s catchy and something you can sing along with. I think that’s important as kind of the first way to get people pulled in and hooked.
But the song also sounds different than any other country song out there right now. I’m also kind of struggling to compare it to anything that’s come out in the past. I’m sure there have been songs like it, but this one is pretty cool.
It’s a song about a guy that sees this girl out. He knows she’s not really looking for anything, but he makes his subtle moves and she responds in her subtle ways. Things kind of build from there.
And throughout the song the lyrics all touch on modern things and current language. The song is not looking back. It’s looking forward. There is something to be said for that and I think it will serve Sam Hunt well as he moves into his career.
