Mark Wills

Do you remember this one?

Mark Wills had his first hit back in 1996. After that he kept the hits rolling for quite a few years. He had a little modern country sound at a time when country had been pretty traditional for a few years.

But Mark always seemed to fit in with all the styles in country music. He just came across as a good guy with a good ear for a hit song and he really sang his songs well.

By the time 2002 rolled around things weren’t necessarily on the downswing for Mark. He had a couple top 20 hits in the ’00s, but he wasn’t having the huge hits like he did in the late ’90s.

That was until the song 19 Somethin’ came out in 2002.

I remember back to this time and this song was huge. We’re talking one of the biggest songs of the year. It was a great blend of nostalgia and melody. I couldn’t relate to the things mentioned in the song that happened in the ’70s, but I do remember the things mentioned from the ’80s.

And really the song is just about nostalgia in general. It was specific for a generation of country fans, but even beyond that it was about all of us being able to look back on our past and remember the 1900s and all the great things that happened.

The song reached #1 on the charts and it seemed like things would be trending up for Mark, but he hasn’t had a big hit since then. But I still hear this song on the radio sometimes and I wonder if he could ever find that one song that would put him on the map again.

You never know.
