Yesterday we looked at the new Jennifer Nettles song. That got me thinking about doing a Sugarland song for Throwback Thursday. And I thought we should go all the way back to their first hit, Baby Girl, which shot up the charts and landed at #2. I knew it had been quite a few years, but I was still shocked to learn that the single was released on July 12th, 2004.
That seems crazy to me. Time really does fly by. I guess a lot has changed both for Sugarland and country music in those ten years. The group started out as a trio. That only last for the first album and I’m not even sure if they toured as a trio or not.
Then they became a duo for their second album. There were questions of whether they would make it as a duo or not and that obviously wasn’t an issues because the group just kept having huge hit after huge for about 5 or 6 years.
Now it’s been ten years and both Jennifer and Kristian are out trying their own thing. I don’t think they officially broke up the band or anything like that. They just want to see what they can do on their own. They already reached the top as a duo and I’m sure they’ll come back to it when they have the inspiration. They seemed to have fun and seemed to enjoy the Sugarland machine.
But for now we’ll flashback to the very first song that they had on the charts. It’s as good today as it was back then.
