I can’t believe it’s been 19 years since Blue came out on the radio.
Back then LeAnn Rimes was brand new to just about everyone in the mainstream world. I’m sure she was busy working to build a fanbase well before that point, but it felt at the time like she just burst onto the scene.
It was an interesting time in country music back then. We’re talking 1996 when Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn along with Faith Hill, Shania and Patty were all at the time of their games.
It was kind of the Hat Act Era in country music. It had been pretty traditional, but things were starting to swing a little bit back toward pop.
Then out of nowhere you have LeAnn coming in with a song that sounded like it was straight out of the ’60s Nashville Sound Era.
Blue actually only reached #10 on the charts, but it seemed back then like it was a much bigger hit. And even today it has definitely had an impact. The song has a timeless yet contemporary sound to it. You feel like it would have been a hit in just about any era.
LeAnn really launched into superstardom after this song. She racked up tons of hits on the radio and did all kinds of different music and today I think she’s still one of the best voices country music has ever had.
This flashback was inspired by a new artist and new song we’ll look at tomorrow. But for now enjoy this one and if you have any thoughts to share on the song or on LeAnn Rimes please leave it in the comments.
I’d love to hear from you.
