Nothing wrong with a little Dan Seals.
Today we’re going back just about 30 years exactly. We’re getting into the New Year, 2016 tomorrow, and as we look back in 1986 it was really an interesting time in country music.
A song that would reach #1 on the charts in January 1986 was Bop by Dan Seals. It’s certainly not your ordinary country songs. I don’t know exactly what was going on in country music at this moment in time, but it seems that things had gotten a bit more pop as does happen from time to time in country music.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Things go back and forth and that’s a good thing.
But this song was just different. I don’t really know many other songs like this one. I remember hearing it on classic country radio stations over the years and it still is played on those stations. I think the reason is that it’s just a really fun, really catchy song.
Sometimes you just get a song like that where people like it. They can’t really explain why they like it. I think it’s just the sound and the melody and a good performance.
And Dan Seals has always been an interesting artist to me. His career began was England Dan in England Dan & John Ford Coley. They had a couple hits on the pop charts and I really like those songs.
Then Dan Seals came over to country and had some really strong country hits including this one. And he’s part of the Seals family, which has been big in country music in a lot of different ways.
So just an interesting son here for Throwback Thursday. I like it and I know many others do as well.
