Brooks & Dunn recently got back together to play a few shows with their friend Reba McEntire. I’m sure the guys brought their classic energy and style to the stage and rocked the house for the fans.
It was 24 years ago this summer that those guys got together and started having success on the charts.
It hadn’t been easy for them in Nashville. They had both been kicking around. Depending on how you would talk about success, neither of these two were having any.
That was until they got put together to do some songwriting and to see what would happen maybe as a duo. One of the first songs the two wrote together (along with Don Cook) was Brand New Man.
Talk about a hit.
This song was a game changer in country music. The opening is different. The rocking sound is different. There really hadn’t been anything like this in country before and people loved it from the first listen.
The song would go on to reach #1 on the charts and launch two struggling solo singers into one of the biggest acts country music has ever seen.
The song is about a guy that has been struggling with love for his entire life. It’s not that he wasn’t happy, but he never knew what love would be like until he met the true love of his life. And that’s where the song came from.
It was easy to think that these two struggling singers and songwriters could write a song like this. People loved it.
