Not your average country band.
Earlier this month Cody Canada released a new album and single with his new band, The Departed. It’s a real cool song called Inbetweener. It seems that Cody and the new guys are getting some good buzz surrounding the new project.
If you remember the name Cody Canada then you probably remember his former project, Cross Canadian Ragweed. Back in the early 2000s I loved watching CMT and those guys had videos on it all the time. They were definitely different than other bands on the channel at the time.
These guys had songs with more grit and edge. The sound was definitely on that edge of country and rock, but it worked really well. They had some good melodies and some really good lyrics. If you were looking for something just a little harder and grittier than the pop-country that was ruling at the time then Cross Canadian Ragweed was your band.
Unfortunately the band never really had a radio hit. I think they cracked the top 50 a few times with some of their best singles. I was surprised they never really broke through. Everybody likes Eric Church now and these guys were kind of bringing that attitude to country back in their day.
The band is not together anymore from what I know, but I still listen to their songs once in a while. Here is one of my favorites. I actually think this one was their highest charting single.
Fightin’ For – Cross Canadian Ragweed
This is a great song by one of my favorite bands. I sure wish they didn’t break up. I gotta say I still listen to them all the time. Cody Canada is great. Thanks for sharing.
