Tim McGraw

Here was a good one from 1998.

Today we’re throwing it back to late ’98.

Tim McGraw was really at the top of the country world. I guess some things never really change.

But back then Tim was at the end of his Everywhere album, which was selling tons of copies. It actually had six singles, which was pretty rare at the time and probably even more rare now although I think Luke Bryan just did that with his last record.

But anyway, the song For A Little While was pretty unique at the time and still stands out well today. It has an incredibly catchy melody and I think that’s why I remember it as being one of my favorites then. And when I hear it on the radio now I usually turn it up a notch or two.

The song is about a little love fling. I think it’s about a past love. The guy is looking back on how good that time was. For whatever reason things didn’t work out, but that can happen sometimes and it’s not always something that leads to bitter feelings. This definitely left the guy with positive feelings as he looks back.

The song was also unique because Phil Vassar was one of the co-writers on the track.

If you remember back during this time Phil was really killing it as a songwriter. Everybody was cutting his stuff and having huge hits. And it led to Phil getting his own recording deal. And later in 2000 he and Tim would cross paths on the charts as Phil’s recording Just Another Day In Paradise was competing with Tim’s My Next Thirty Years for the number one spot.

Phil had a hand in writing Tim’s song so it was a win-win for him. I think both actually spent at least a week at the top.

So a nice little connection there and a great song from 1998.
