It’s a little hard to believe now, but 2009 was a turning point year for Chris Young.
A few years before that Chris was on Nashville Star and seemed destined for success. His debut album did pretty well building off the momentum of the show. The two singles from that album were good songs, but neither cracked the top 40 on the charts.
That’s not good for an artist today. Labels are impatient at least in some or possibly most cases with new artists. Or at least at that time it seemed to be that way.
Then Chris came back in 2008 with the single Voices. Now, this was the first time that single was released and it barely cracked the top 40 on the charts.
Then it all changed in 2009 with Gettin’ You Home.
That song came out and I think it climbed pretty slowly throughout the year, but eventually it would go on and become a number one song.
Chris would follow that up with four more number ones in a row including the rerelease of Voices.
But it all really started with Gettin’ You Home.
It’s a flirty song about the kind of love you have someone when all you can really think about is being alone with them. You might be out on a date having a good time, eating some good food and having a few drinks, but all you can really think about is getting home.
It’s great to see the success Chris has had since this song came out. He’s one of the traditional country singers out there today and his new album sounds as good as ever.
