Alright, we’re throwing it back to 2008-2009 with this one. You might not remember this one because it was an album cut on the Startin’ Fires album for Blake Shelton.
There are a few layers of intrigue with this song…
First, the song was the title cut from the album, but the song was never released as a single. The album did have two singles, but there were a few other options on the record that could have been singles including this one. Sometimes, though, new songs come along and the artist and label move on to the next record.
Second, this was the last full length album that Blake did for a few years. In 2010, Blake released two EPs. The idea was that maybe people didn’t want to buy full albums anymore, but that soon changed in 2011 when Blake went back to making full length records.
Third, right now this is Blake’s only album not to be certified at least Gold for shipments of 500,000 copies. You could probably say it was because it only had two singles. Maybe the label moved on too quick from this one because this title cut and the other songs on it are great.
Fourth, the song was co-written by Sherrie Austin. She had a few hits of her own back in the ’00s and has written some other great songs for other artists.
Alright, the song is incredibly catchy. From the first time I heard it I thought it could have been a single. Title tracks aren’t always released as singles, but you gotta think that the artist liked it if they named the album after it.
Hopefully this isn’t one of those great songs that gets lost in the shuffle. Maybe Blake will put it out in the future or maybe someone else will released their version.
Who knows.
