I was thinking about Collin Raye the other day. Back in the late ’90s I used to watch CMT every morning before school. I’m talking every morning for at least an hour. I’d have breakfast and sit in the chair in the living room watching country music videos until the bus came by to pick up my bother and me.
During those days, Collin Raye was a mainstay on the country charts. He was one of the biggest and best stars in country music. It was hard to pick a song of his to include in this Throwback Thursday. I could probably have him on every Thursday for the rest of the year he’s had so many good songs over his career.
But I choose I Think About You.
It was the title track off what was probably Collin’s biggest album. It came out in 1995 and during that year through 1996 the album charted six singles. That’s an incredible achievement for an album. It’s happened only a couple of times over the years with artists and doesn’t really happen much anymore. It’s a story when someone reaches five singles from one album and it’s really rare to see six.
Collin is still doing his thing out there today. I remember a few years ago I was listening to the radio in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where I lived. There was a country festival outside of town and the radio DJ was talking about the Collin Raye show that took place. He said he didn’t realize all the hits that Collin had since he’d been off the radio for a few years. He promptly played a couple Collin Raye songs and I’m sure the people listening in were loving it.
This is one of my favorite songs from Collin Raye. The video is interesting. I don’t think I remember seeing it before. It’s another way Collin Raye was special. He was always doing something with a little more meaning.
Enjoy this throwback moment.
I Think About You – Collin Raye
Enjoyed your article. Couldn’t agree with you more. Collin is a great singer with a lot of great songs. Thanks for reminding me. I hear him on xm occasionally. Too bad the younger folks don’t appreciate good country music
