Today we’re throwing it back to 1996. At that time Doug Supernaw was a pretty big country star. For a good three years he was on the charts with a few hits including the number one I Don’t Call Him Daddy and the number three hit Not Enough Hours In The Night.
For some reason his uptempo songs did just alright including the one we’re looking at today. I actually think it’s a pretty fun video and I think Doug had a lot to do with the concept himself.
She Never Looks Back only reached #51 on the Billboard charts, which surprises me. Thinking back to that time in country music it was pretty competitive, but this kind of song is one that will get stuck in your head. I could even imagine the kids kind of singing along with this one.
Shortly after this song came out Doug’s career kind of took a turn into the sunset. He never really reached the charts again even though he would release a great album on an independent label. I actually have all four of his records and they really stand up well even today.
Sometimes the really creative people in life are the ones with some demons. I think Doug is doing okay these days, but I can’t say for sure. I’m sure he is very proud of his kids though including Phillip Supernaw who’s been playing for the Baltimore Ravens.
So I hope you enjoy this little flashback. It’s been almost twenty years now, but that was a great time in country music.
