It’s hard to believe that we’re coming up on 10 years since Jake Owen released his first single. We still have about a year or so to go, but the time really does go fast.
Jake’s first single was Yee Haw and he followed that up with the personal Startin’ With Me and his career was off and running.
But there was a third single on that debut record that was pretty cool and still stands out. The song was Something About A Woman.
Do you remember it?
The song came out in 2007 and took a slow climb into the top 20 from what I remember. That’s not incredibly high on the charts relative to what Jake has done since then, but for some reason I’m remembering that single being on the charts for a long time and getting a lot of radio play.
The song was a pretty cool grooving love song. It wasn’t really like a whole lot going on at the time. Maybe a little Bro Country in the very early days or a little of that Surfing Country that Jake has kind of tapped into over the years.
There are things about Jake’s career that have changed and things that have stayed the same. He has a new single out now and he said he’s really aiming for something different and special with this new record.
Jake has definitely grown as an artist. I remember thinking in 2010 that I wasn’t sure how much longer he would be around. I was very wrong on that. I felt his sound was too similar to other artists, but now Jake has definitely left his mark on country.
And I hope he keeps finding success. I liked this early song from 8 years ago and I like his new stuff too.
