We’re going back to 1979 for this one. I wasn’t around, but looking back on the music it sure seems like it was a different time in country music and in music in general.
If you look at that time there were all kinds of sounds coming out of everywhere. It seems like there were few restrictions and that people were kind of open to just about anything artists could come up with.
The song we’re looking at today is Suspicions by the great Eddie Rabbitt.
I was surprised to see that Eddie had 20 number one hits during his career. You don’t have that many top hits without making your mark on country music and Eddie is still remembered by people today. I remember Tim McGraw recorded this song a few years ago on one of his albums. It kind of sparked a little bit of interest in Eddie again.
The song is about this guy that loves his girl, but he has these suspicions that maybe she’s too good for him. It’s a little bit of worry and maybe a lack of confidence. The guy is just saying that the love of his life is so amazing that he’s lucky to have her and wants to hang on to her.
It’s a great song and you really don’t get this kind of music today. I would say the one person today that could pull it off would be Billy Currington or maybe David Nail. Actually David Nail could really pull this one off well I think.
Or even LeAnn Rimes to kind of turn it around.
Anyway, I like Eddie’s version. I little look back at what country was like 35 years ago.
