It’s Thursday so we’re going to look back on a song from the past.
Jason Aldean is just about at the top of the charts with yet another hit single. It’s been ten years since the Summer of 2005 when he burst onto the scene with Hicktown and with Why, which became his first single toward the fall that year.
It would be easy to look back and say that you got the feeling that Jason would go on to be one of the biggest stars in country and in music in general. He did really have a strong debut. His first single went top ten and then Why was a major hit.
But you never know with new artists. They can have great first records and then struggle to maintain the momentum. Jason had a solid record the second time out, but it certainly didn’t launch him into superstar status.
That kind of came along with the third record and for sure happened with the fourth record. And now we all know that he’s on the top of the game.
But looking back you can see glimpses including on this one. The song, Why, was co-written with John Rich and a couple of his songwriting buddies. Back then Jason had recorded more than a handful of Rich songs for his debut record.
I remember reading something John Rich said that went like, “I hope he’s (Jason) will do well because he’s taking all my good songs.”
That was in fun, but it was smart of Jason at the time and proved that he knew how to find those hits.
Off and running now, but it was just about ten years ago when he took this one to the top.
