This one has a funky feel to it.
Christina Taylor is new to us here at CML. That’s always exciting to me. I get to listen to a lot of great new country music and you never know when the next Maren Morris or Thomas Rhett is going to come across the blogosphere.
Christina has a new EP out right now. Be sure to check out all five songs. For this post we’re going to check out the current single.

That Girl – Christina Taylor
The first thing that hits me with this song is the style and the groove. It’s not a ballad. It’s also not a dance song. It’s kind of in the middle. Just a cool storytelling groove and it works well. I don’t know if we’ve had something with this style recently at radio so maybe this one could fill a void.
The theme has a fresh feeling to it also. I think it’s about a girl that’s looking back a little bit on who she’s been in the past. Things she’s done. Ways she’s felt.
And she doesn’t want to go back to being that girl anymore. The one that never had any fun. The one that bounced around like a tornado of emotion all the time.
Sometimes we can all fall into that trap. We see others that are hot messes and we think that we’re doing just fine. But then upon closer examination we realize that we’re a mess ourselves.
Could be a job. Could be a guy or a girl causing the issues. Either way, it usually doesn’t pay to be that girl.
What do you think?
