Wow. Ashley Monroe has a new album out and she recently performed the title track on the Opry. Here is the video of that performance. Talk about stunning and powerful.
The Blade – Ashley Monroe
The first thing that comes to mind when I watch this performance is that it reminds me of Lee Ann Womack. And Lee Ann is one of my favorite country singers of all time.
Lee Ann has been a traditional country singer from the beginning. She’s been loved by Alan Jackson and George Jones because she’s always kept it country.
And I think Ashley falls right there with Lee Ann. Ashley’s voice is powerful and this song really has elements of traditional country music. It’s subtle and powerful and that’s not an easy combination, but this is a really a great song.
It’s about a breakup. It sounds like it’s the guy that’s doing the breaking up. He’s reassuring the girl that it will all be alright and that things won’t be too bad. Well, maybe they will for him, but for her it’s really going to be a difficult transition.
If you’ve ever been in this situation you probably can relate well to the meaning of the song. It can seem like the other person is taking it real well and that’s it not even affecting them. You wish it would affect them as much as it affects you. Then you feel bad for feeling that way.
That’s a powerful emotion and it comes across perfectly in this performance. I hope this new record does well. Country music needs more from Ashley Monroe.
