Carrie Underwood is back with a powerful new single.
Carrie Underwood is back.
Not that she ever really left. It’s only been a couple years since her last solo single was nearing the top of the charts. And just last year she had a huge hit singing The Fighter with Keith Urban.
Last year it was also announced that Carrie was moving labels. That’s usually a pretty rare move for a superstar. Usually those labels know what they have and do everything they can to keep their stars.
I believe this is the first single from that new deal. It’s a powerful one.
The Champion – Carrie Underwood
This song came out as a promotional single for the football playoffs. I think it caught a few fans off guard. I know it kind of snuck up on me. I first saw the lyric video on YouTube.
One thing that country music has lacked a little bit is collaborations. Maybe part of the reason Carrie was switching labels was so she could do a few more collabs. In this case she’s working with Ludacris. This should widen the audience for both artists even though they’re both already well established in their respective genres.
The song is powerful. The lyrics are all about taking pride in what you do. They seem to be about never giving up and doing whatever it takes to come out as the champion in the end.
Maybe a little cheesy if put in the wrong hands, but when Carrie does this one it sounds special. I think it’ll be a big hit, but obviously that’s not really going out on a huge limb.
