The Civil Wars came to the country scene just a couple years ago. After several hit singles in various media the band found unlikely success. Their debut album has sold over 500,000 copies and more around the world.
The internal strife that has brought them apart recently seems to come through in some of their music. Here is their latest song release as performed in a video that’s a few months old.
20 Years – The Civil Wars
I have to admit that even I’m taken by the sounds of The Civil Wars. They have this weird sound that feels like it’s coming from a deep and dark place way out in the woods. There is just nothing like this sound anywhere in country music or anywhere in all of music.
The band finds these eery sounds and puts them on record and people have really taken to it. This proves that if you find something different, but good you can really make an impact in the world.
From what I gather the song is about two people that were together a long time ago. One of them is ready to find each other again. They left a note and they’re waiting and waiting for another note to be returned in response.
I’m not sure if the song is about love or about death or maybe both. It’s hard to tell in this type of song. The vague lyrics make the song all the more eery and that just builds on the reputation The Civil Wars have built.
It’s too bad they couldn’t find a way to make it work because you get the feeling they were just getting started with something special.
Or perhaps – as the name implies – they were just playing fans the entire time.
