Since it’s Christmas I thought we should be looking at a new Christmas song here on Country Music Life.
There have been quite a few really good holiday albums released from country artists this year. I think we’ve looked at most, but one that we’ve overlooked up until now is the new one from Jennifer Nettles.
She’s got a great voice and great style and she really nails some of the holiday classics. I really like her version of this one. It’s one of my favorites.
The First Noel – Jennifer Nettles
I’m not sure why this song has always been one of my favorites. It’s not an uptempo Christmas song. It’s slower and in this case it’s pretty eased back on the production. But the song still makes me smile. It kind of builds throughout the song, which reminds me of those Christmas masses at church. This one always seems to be on the list for the congregation to sing.
Jennifer definitely makes this one her own. Her voice always kind of has that little extra edge to it, but she’s pretty versatile as well. She can sing just about any kind of song and while she definitely belts out a few notes she also brings it back in a little, which is important for this song.
It’s the last song on her new holiday album and It’s a great choice to close out the album and we’ll use it to close out the Christmas season here at CML.
