He can still make some really good country music.

One of my favorite stations on SiriusXM is Prime Country. It’s country music from the ’80s and ’90s. That’s the music I grew up with and still love.

Once in awhile a song from Billy Ray Cyrus will come on. And it’s not the well known (and sometimes chided) Achy Breaky Heart. Billy Ray had a handful of other hit songs and they were really good songs that hold up well. I guess Achy Breaky kind of had its good and bad sides.

But that’s life and Billy Ray has continued to move forward in his life and that includes releasing new music. Here is the title track from his latest self-released album.

Thin Line – Billy Ray Cyrus

Billy Ray has always fit in well with the traditional country world. But others that are fans of traditional country maybe have pushed against him being in that genre because of his success with line dancing or acting or whatever. He might be a little Hollywood, but this song is a country song.

You can hear the Waylon influence on this one especially in the vocals. Billy Ray always had that sound and it’s one of the reasons that so many country fans liked him even beyond the success in pop and in acting.

This one is really a country song. It sounds like it could have come from a different era and that’s pretty cool. It’s a song that looks at life and perhaps the decisions we make. It’s not all black and white. It’s not easy to make good decisions and the line can be thin between doing good and making a mistake.

I really like this one.
