Fans are loving the country tune as sung by the movie’s star Gwyneth Paltrow. Who knew the Hollywood beauty could sing and sing a song like Country Strong so well? With a little help from Nashville’s finest including Vince Gill the song has garnered increased attention in the lead up to the movie.
Along with the title song there is another tune from the Country Strong Soundtrack I’ve been hearing and I’m really taking a a liking to it.
Me And Tennessee is the only song on the soundtrack that includes Tim McGraw. It seems a little strange that Tim doesn’t have more of a musical presence in the movie, but his character – from what I can tell in previews – isn’t an artist. Anyway, Me And Tennessee is a duet with Tim and Gwyneth and it’s really another great country song from a top notch soundtrack.
The song is about two people looking at their relationship and realizing things aren’t going to work out. They think back to the time they fell in love. There was the moment in the back of a pickup truck when their own country song came on and they knew there were in love. Then somewhere along the line the man strayed and did something wrong and the woman just can’t overcome that fact. They both realize that even though there is still some love there it ultimately won’t work out for either of them.
They have to move on.
We hear breakup songs all the time on country radio, but this song stands apart on the airwaves for me. I love that it’s done as a duet. You get to hear both sides of the story from both the man and the woman. There is emotion in their voices on the track. Both emotions are the same yet there is a difference as well.
I’ve been turning this song up each time it comes on the radio and I think when people head out to see the movie and listen to the soundtrack this tune will stand out.
