Miranda Lambert has a new single out. We have a few things to go over with this one. Miranda stole the show in a way when she played her song, Tin Man, at the ACMs recently. Fans went crazy for the song. Or maybe the correct term is that they were captivated by the performance.
And for good reason. There is some real emotion in this song. Some real good country music.
Tin Man – Miranda Lambert
The first thing you’ll notice on this one is the really stripped down production. Pretty much just Miranda’s vocals and an acoustic guitar. You don’t get that much in country music these days. Well, I don’t think you ever really got it that much unless you saw an acoustic show.
It’s bold to take on a performance like this especially on the recording. And especially for a single. But Miranda pulls it off beautifully.
This is a broken heart song. It’s about someone that is really going through pain. They’ve lost someone they loved. They didn’t want it to end. They didn’t want to feel this pain.
The hook is that the heart broken person is talking to the imaginary Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. He was always looking for a heart. The narrator in this song is saying that the Tin Man might be better off without one.
Miranda’s song is really great, but it’s not the first time the Tin Man theme has come up in country music. Kenny Chesney released his debut album on an independent label in 1994. He didn’t really have any hits, but his song, The Tin Man, did reach the very bottom of the country singles charts.
Kenny later re-released the song on his Greatest Hits album that came out around 2000-2001. That release saw the song reach the top twenty. Different songs. Similar themes. Fans love both.
Also a quick note about the song’s cowriter. Jack Ingram wrote the song with Miranda. It’s cool to see Jack back in the mix on the country charts.
This song is just great. So much to love about it. I hope it becomes a huge hit.
