Top Country Songs of 2010 – Part 4
20) Hell On The Heart – Eric Church
Back in the spring of 2010 Eric Church notched his second straight top ten hit. Hell On The Heart had a slow climb to its peak position, but sometimes it’s the slow gaining songs that have the most play over the year. Eric Church hasn’t been having hits that peak high, but his songs are popular at radio over time and in concert. Hell On The Heart is a song about a woman that can wear a guy down, but maybe the title could also describe Eric’s fight against the Billboard chart. Either way his big hit in 2010 was a top song of the year.

19) Mine – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is perhaps the biggest artist in music. Not just country music. Music. Her latest album just sold over 1 million copies in the first week alone. The lead single from the album was Mine. The song has Taylor sining about falling in love with a boy and finding lifetime happiness together. It’s kind of a rocking tune with a big chorus and some powerful sound. The song turned into a big country and pop hit. Taylor Swift is everywhere these days with legions of fans flocking to see her shows and buying her merchandise. Mine was a huge single this past year.
18) Anything Like Me – Brad Paisley
Brad Paisley has had an incredible run of hits over the last five or so years. He even had a string of 10 or so number one hits in a row. In 2010 he released another smash hit single with Anything Like Me. Recently Brad and his wife have brought two sons into the world. It’s obvious the little guys have had an effect on Brad. The song is about seeing your son come into the world and thinking about all that he’ll encounter in his life. Brad seemed to look at his son’s future fondly as he thought that he’ll live a good life if he’s anything like Brad. It’s a sweet song that had all parents tearing up a little bit.

17) As She’s Walking Away – Zac Brown Band and Alan Jackson
Zac Brown Band has been on a tear since becoming an unlikely superstar band just a few years ago. After years of playing the small time shows in the south the band broke out once their debut song Chicken Fried started getting big attention. The band prepared for the release of their sophomore major release in 2010. The lead single was As She’s Walking Away and the guys in the band brought in a big gun to help them on the track. Alan Jackson is featured as the wise man in the video encouraging the narrator to take a chance and talk to the girl. It’s a unique song about a great topic that tons of people related to. These guys are on a roll.

16) Come Back Song – Darius Rucker
A big story in 2010 was the much anticipated album release from Darius Rucker. The former pop star sold millions of albums and had 3 number one hits and another number two hit starting in 2008 after he convinced Capitol Records Nashville to take a chance on him. In 2010 he released Come Back Song. The track is straight pop-country and the ultra-catchy melody had everybody singing along. The song is actually about a guy begging for his girl to come back to him. I originally thought the song was about Darius’ come back to music, which seemed a little strange to me. I was pleasantly surprised and so were most country music fans.

15) Bullets In The Gun – Toby Keith
Toby Keith prepared a new album release late in 2010. The first single from the album did alright on the charts, but it was the second single that really had people talking. Bullets In The Gun is a throwback country song. It’s a modern day outlaw story about a biker, a stripper, and the trouble they find over a few days. The song hit it big on the charts. Toby has been a success on the charts for nearly two decades now. He’s had to endure label changes and many other snubs, but his fans keep bringing him to the top of the charts. He’s a legend in country music and his songs are still making an impact today.

14) All About Tonight – Blake Shelton
I’ll admit that All About Tonight is a guilty pleasure for me. I related to the song when I heard the line about a red Gatorade next to the bed ready to go. Way back in my college days I used to keep the same drink handy for those nights after heading out on the town. It really does bring you back the next day. The song is all in good fun and there is no one better to sing it than good old Blake Shelton. He had probably his biggest year ever in 2010 and it was capped off with a win for Best Male Vocalist at the CMAs. A huge year and All About Tonight was a big reason for it.

13) Gimmie That Girl – Joe Nichols
Joe Nichols is a curious case in country music. His trek into the business started in the ’90s with an independent album that didn’t gain much attention. He later found huge success with an album and a few singles. Then he fell back a bit and has been on and off since. In 2010 Joe came back after a few moderate singles and released Gimmie That Girl. The song reached the number one spot on the charts and continued getting play for the entire year. People latched on to the lyrics from the narrator saying he just wants his girl that is stripped down of all the make up and cover up. He loves her for who she is. That’s what he wants. It’s a great song with a great sentiment.

12) The Boys of Fall – Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney took some time off for about a year or so. He scaled back his touring and released a few singles from his latest Greatest Hits package. In late 2010 though Kenny came back with a brand new studio album with all original material. The first single from the set was The Boys of Fall. The track is Kenny’s ode to the great American football players. Lots of boys grow up idolizing football stars, wanting to play like them someday. Kenny is no different and he created both a documentary on the topic and this song that ultimately went to number one on the charts in the fall.

11) Love Like Crazy – Lee Brice
Lee Brice had a big year in 2010. His single Love Like Crazy was actually released way back in August of 2009, but it became one of the slowest climbing songs in the history of Billboard. The track ultimately reached #3 on the charts in the summer of 2010 and even went Gold. The song is a story about life and how loving those around you and loving what you do can make for a fulfilling life. It’s an uplifting song and a big reason it was as popular with country fans as it was. Lee has been known for his great songwriter for years. Now he’s a respected artist in his own right.
