Top Country Songs of 2011 Part 10
5. Barefoot Blue Jean Night – Jake Owen
Up until this point in his career Jake Owen has had singles slowly climb their way up the charts. He’s had big hits and a few more modest hits on the charts. With Jake’s first single off his upcoming third album he left no doubt in anyone’s mind that he’s ready to be a star. Barefoot Blue Jean Night is the kind of music Jake Owen was born to make. It’s fun. It’s catchy and people are really digging it. The song shows off Jake’s charisma. It shows his fun side. People are loving it. Barefoot Blue Jean Night is the perfect summer country song. It’s fun. It’s got spirit and it’s become what could be a signature song for Jake Owen – country star.

4. Take A Back Road – Rodney Atkins
There is one song I haven’t been able to stop playing – Take A Back Road. This is classic Rodney Atkins. Over the last couple years Rodney has been releasing simple country songs with heart. His songs always have an appreciation for the country life. It’s refreshing to see someone unashamed of being a country boy while having the ability to make it seem like the best life in the world without shouting or posturing. Take A Back Road reminds people to get off the fast lane once in a while in favor of the perfect country life. Great song and one of the best of 2011.

3. You And Tequila – Kenny Chesney with Grace Potter
Kenny Chesney is fighting for something big. It’s crazy to think Kenny hasn’t reached all of the top marks in country music, but up to this point he’s never had four number one singles from one album. It looks like Kenny is about to achieve that accomplishment with You And Tequila. Kenny wisely got Grace Potter to sing on the track. Their vocals are beautiful together. The emotion of wanting to be with someone comes through in their voices. They know they’re wrong for each other, but something keeps bringing them back together. There is a lust. There is the need to be with one another. This is the kind of country music I love and it seems others love it as well.

2. Remind Me – Brad Paisley with Carrie Underwood
Brad Paisley caught me off guard with Remind Me. Over the last few months it seems like Brad has released 10 singles and all have gone to number one. The third single from Brad’s latest album is Remind Me and it’s a wonderful song about love and how it can change over time. The duet partner on the track is Carrie Underwood. The song is about a couple that’s drifted apart a bit. Over time they’ve lost a bit of the romance in their love life. If you’ve been in a relationship for a long time this may have happened to you. We all need reminders now and again of just how much we love someone. We need to remind ourselves just how attracted we still are to the love of our life. What a great song.

1. Honey Bee – Blake Shelton
There was no other choice for top song this quarter than Honey Bee Blake Shelton. It’s a simple song about falling in love and being completely overcome by the emotion. It’s simple. It’s romantic and most of all this song is fun. It seems like the perfect song to really take Blake into complete superstar status. The song shot to number one on the charts in like two months – extremely rare in country music. It’s been a multiple week top hit already. This could be a fan favorite song for years to come. I’ve been playing it over and over for the last few months and I think it’s really the best song of the year thus far.
