It’s a new quarter and we have a fresh list of 25 country songs.

Top Country Songs of 2011 Part 11

25. Where I Come From – Montgomery Gentry

Montgomery GentryMontgomery Gentry was one of the biggest acts in country music for the last ten years. Sometime last year they were let go from their previous record label and the future was a bit unknown for the rocking country duo. The two buddies eventually settled with Average Joe’s Entertainment and the first single, Where I Come From, was released. The song is already in the top 40 and seems to be on the rise in search of top 20 or even top 10 status. The song is classic Montgomery Gentry. The guys are singing about the small town people once again. These are the folks that are proud of the town, the state, and country they come from. They don’t hold anything back when it comes to defending their home turf. There is pride in the way they live and what they do. That’s what Montgomery Gentry is all about and it’s no surprise to see them back at their roots for this latest track.

24. Hunt You Down – JT Hodges

JT HodgesJT Hodges gets credit for one of the catchiest songs of the year with Hunt You Down. I couldn’t help singing along with this track every time I heard it. The song has this great melody and is full of hooks. You’ll find yourself even whistling along as JT relives his experience with a woman down on the Gulf Coast. He and this nice, but mysterious lady had a great time together and when they have to depart he promises he’s going to hunt her down. Love is like that sometimes and it was captured perfectly with this song. I’m not sure if JT can repeat the success of this first single, but he’s been introduced to the country audience now and things are setup well to have his second single reach even greater heights on the charts.

23. My Name Is Money – Sonia Leigh

1978 DecemberSonia Leigh is not really a new country artist, but her first ever single is climbing the charts fast. Sonia was signed by Zac Brown earlier this year. She’s been out on tour with him all summer introducing herself to the country world. She’s been busy for a decade working on her music, playing shows, and even releasing multiple albums on her own and with independent labels. The song, My Name Is Money, is about how money seems to have this power over all of us. It’s an interesting perspective on how we all work so hard for what might not be all that important. The song is great and the real story is Sonia’s vocals. They’re gritty, edgy, and full of passionate. Sonia Leigh is 100% original and she seems to be taking off already as a star in country music.

22. Bulletproof – Steel Magnolia

Steel MagnoliaSteel Magnolia had a great 2011. It was almost a quiet 2011, but the duo continues putting out great singles. Their latest is Bulletproof, a song about being tough no matter what the circumstance. It’s a great track that has attitude and grit. There is plenty to like about Steel Magnolia. The duo has four songs now that have charted. The group is looking for this latest track to do a little better on the charts. I think it will make its way up into the top 20 and possibly the top ten. That’s a difficult thing to do, though, so we’ll have to see. The duo has the talent to be great and there’s really no other act like them out there right now. They’re a little quirky, a little edgy, and with great songs like Bulletproof they could continue racking up big hits.

21. Alone With You – Jake Owen

Barefoot Blue Jean NightThis is Jake’s second single off his Barefoot Blue Jean Night album. This is the breakout album for Jake. The title track and first single went number one on the charts. It was Jake’s first ever song to reach number one. The album also debuted with the biggest sales numbers of Jake’s young career. It’s the third album from one of country’s biggest rising stars. Jake reached that moment earlier this year where his career could go either way and he decided to find some great songs and make his best record yet. Alone With You is a great song. It wasn’t my favorite on the album, but there were so many good songs the execs really couldn’t go wrong picking any of the tracks. Alone With You should do very well on the charts. There’s really nothing like it on radio right now. The song is about new love and being excited to be with someone and only them. It’s a passionate love song and people always relate well to those.
