Top Country Songs of 2011 Part 19
10. Like We Never Said Goodbye – Clay Walker
It’s been a strange few years for Clay Walker. His label can’t make up their mind about what song to release as a single. Time goes by and people kind of forget about one of the greatest country artists of all time. This song is a hit and I’m not sure if it will get a fair shake or not. I thought I’d highlight it here because it really deserves to be heard. Check it out and see what you think.
9. Love’s Gonna Make It Alright – George Strait
The King just keeps them coming. George Strait is the definition of a hit machine. I’m not sure how he does it, but George went back to the well again and produced another catchy number. This song is nothing special and it’s a bit cliche, but you can’t help but love anything that George Strait sings. The man never disappoints and things are looking pretty good for the old man heading in the new year. You can’t keep him down and it’s great to see him up there with the young crowd.
8. When I Get It – Craig Campbell
This song gets one of my personal notes for the year. Craig Campbell earned some criticism with his last hit. The guy has two songs that reached the top 30 in the past year and he’s really been one of the pleasant surprises of the past couple years in country. I like his traditional style and I think he’ll be around for a while. When I Get It is an absolute great song with a killer melody. I can’t stop listening to it and if this song could only get a few fair chances at radio I think fans will fall in love with it.
7. Red Solo Cup – Toby Keith
Just when you think Toby Keith is fading into the background he comes back and surprises everybody. Toby had a number one in 2011 and it was actually his first in a few years. That song did really well, but this Red Solo Cup song has been flying up the charts. It’s incredible the attention this track is getting. Everybody is playing it and I’m pretty sure the song is the top song at all college parties around the nation. Toby just keeps on surprising everybody even with his quirky songs about plastic red cups.
6. Even If It Breaks Your Heart – Eli Young Band
The Eli Young Band had their biggest hit this past year. It’s alway tough to follow up a breakthrough hit with another great song, but I think the guys did it with Even If It Breaks Your Heart. I don’t know if this one will make it quite as high on the charts, but it really shouldn’t go overlooked. Check this one out if you haven’t heard it yet because this is going to be another sleeper in 2012. I think the Eli Young Band is really finding their groove in this country music business. Good for them.
