We’re already halfway through 2011…

Man are things going fast. Even though the time has gone fast it’s cool to look back on three solid months of great country music. The best in the business have released new songs and these are the top 25 of the last quarter.

25. Maybe Tonight – Margaret Durante

Margaret Durante has become one of my favorite artists. I had to include her latest single Maybe Tonight as one of the best songs of 2011. It’s got a great melody and as usual Margaret sings the hell out of it. It reminds me of an early Faith Hill or Shania Twain. I’m rooting for Maragret to really break out as a budding star here over the rest of 2011. With songs like Maybe Tonight I think she’s got a chance. The track is about young love and just enjoying life. What could be better?

24. It Ain’t Gotta Be Love – Brett Eldredge

Last year Brett Eldredge released his first single. The song climbed into the top 25 on the charts. That’s a pretty good debut for a brand new artist. Now Brett has released the all important second single. It Ain’t Gotta Be Love is completely different from Raymond. This one is fun and all about just living for the moment. There is no need to worry about love for tonight. It doesn’t have to be love when it’s all about just enjoying the evening. I really like this one.

23. This Ole Boy – Craig Morgan

Craig Morgan has been a hard working guy his entire career. He’s always been just on the edge of superstardom and I’m not sure if he’ll ever get there. But even if he never hits the super big time country fans will remember Craig for his huge collection of hits. Craig is on another new label and he has a brand new hit with plenty of zip. This Ole Boy is my new favorite song this week. It’s fun. It’s romantic. It’s country to the core and it’ll be a crime if this one doesn’t climb all the way up the charts to at least the top ten. Go Craig, Go!

22. Oh, Tonight – Josh Abbott Band

Here is a track most of you may not have heard. It’s been a song I’ve been hearing for a few months now on AOL New Country First and it’s been a favorite of mine. This song is my first introduction to Josh Abbott Band and it was a great first impression. The song has style. It’s got soul and beyond that it’s a pleasure to listen to. Young love is in the air and people are falling in love. Join in and be sure to sing along to this one even if it gets a little lost in the shuffle this year. It’s one of the best songs of 2011 in my book.

21. Take It Off – Joe Nichols

It’s probably been no secret here on CML that I’m a big fan of Joe Nichols. I love just about every song he releases as a single. He’s been up and down on the charts for most of his career. It seems the general country audience doesn’t like his more traditional stuff while eating up his straight line modern country. Joe had a number one not too long ago and heading into the summer it sounds like he’s got another one on his hands. Take It Off is a fun summer song about taking everything off and having a good time. It’s getting hot out there so listen to Joe and enjoy life over the next three months as this one heads up the charts.
