Part 9…moving into the best of the best in Quarter #2…
Top Country Songs of 2011 Part 9
10. Just A Kiss – Lady Antebellum
Just three summers ago I saw Lady Antebellum in concert at a local country festival. They were playing the afternoon show and they rocked the crowd with songs from their first album. They only had two hits at the time, but the crowd was loving what they were performing. Flash forward to today and this band has become the biggest thing in country music. Their first single off their upcoming third album is yet another smash hit. Just A Kiss has that same young love feeling from their past hits. There is a yearning and a lusting in the lyrics and the vocals. Lady A has found their niche in country music and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

9. Cost Of Livin’ – Ronnie Dunn
When I first heard about Cost Of Livin’ I was a bit skeptical. It seemed like it would be another slow song aiming at hitting the emotions again from Ronnie Dunn. That is the kind of song it is, but it’s done in a way that’s genuine and easy to relate to. I have to give Ronnie Dunn credit for releasing a song like this. He wrote it a few years ago and it still rings true today. In fact, I’d say this song could work at any point in this country’s history since folks are always struggling to get by and get to the top. Ronnie Dunn is surprising me with the songs off his latest solo album. I’m still waiting for that rocking B&D type hit, but Cost Of Livin’ is a winner for sure.

8. Let’s Get Together – Phil Vassar
One of the first albums (CDs as they called them in my day) I ever owned was Phil Vassar’s debut. There was something about his positive spirit and fun nature that caught my attention. It’s been a dozen or more years since Phil first released his solo debut. He’s still rocking crowds and releasing great music. Phil is out on his own now, but that doesn’t seem to be slowing him down. He has backing for his latest single – Let’s Get Together – and it looks like the song has a chance to make it on the charts. The song is great and perfect for summer. It’s about getting together with friends and really having a good time. I can’t think of anyone better to sing this song than Phil. He nails it once again.

7. Here For A Good Time – George Strait
I’ll admit George Strait automatically gets a vote near the top with any song he releases. With his latest – Here For A Good Time – George needs to favors. When Kind George releases music people usually pay attention. He’s been releasing hits for 30 years now and with his latest he reminds country fans he’s here for a good time and he’s here to continue dominating the country singles charts. It’s another classic two-stepping song fro the King. People are loving it and I’d say it’s heading straight for number one once again.

6. Let Me Go – Christian Kane
With all the feedback on this song I had to include it in the top ten for this quarter. Christian Kane’s fans are absolutely in love with him. He’s a star actor in movies and on television and now he’s proving to be one of the best up and coming country artists. I’m hoping the song makes some noise on the charts. It’s the story of young love where the girl is trying to stay with the love of her life even though he’s telling her to go to school and live the better life she deserves. She reminds him that there is no better life without him. It’s a sweet love story and combined with great music and vocals it’s definitely one of the best of 2011.
