The Top Country Songs of 2012

January 8, 2012 by Dayne Shuda Leave a Comment

We’re only a week into 2012, but I thought it was worth it to share the top songs of the year so far.

These singles are looking to be huge hits this year. The artists are primed for stardom. Some are back on the top of the charts having already made many trips with top songs while a couple artists are new and really looking to establish themselves as top acts in country music.

Here are the top songs of 2012 so far.

Top Country Songs of 2012

10. When I Get It – Craig Campbell

It’s hard for artist on independent labels to have really big hits, but I think When I Get It is already one of the best songs of 2012. The track is so catchy and fun and the lyrics hit home for a lot of folks. The song makes you put on a smile even when things aren’t going so well. Craig deserves a chance with this record. Consider this my plea to radio stations to play this song until it hits the top 10. Country fans will love this one.

9. Better Than I Used To Be – Tim McGraw

This hit will surprise people in 2012. The song is already in the top 40 and Curb is really pushing it hard for their former artist. I’m not sure how things will shake up with Tim and his music in the new year, but it’s sure to make for a great story. It’s interesting that Curb is pushing this song so hard after the fallout, but I’m sure we’ll have a few singles from Emotional Traffic before Tim comes out with something of his own. He’ll also be out on tour and it could be a big year for him after some unwanted quiet time in 2011.

8. Ours – Taylor Swift

You can’t take anything away from Taylor Swift. She finds new ways to create great songs and she has one of the top songs of 2012 already as Ours just begins its way on up the charts. She debuted this song just a few weeks ago and it’s already one of the biggest hits in the world. I’m sure Taylor has much planned for the new year and she’ll keep riding high with a new album and new tour. It will all kick off with this top track sure to be in the running for awards in 2012.

7. So You Don’t Have To Love Me Anymore – Alan Jackson

The legend is back with a new song that is sure to make some noise. Alan Jackson didn’t write this one, but he laid down some great vocals and I can’t see this song not becoming one of the great stories of 2012. Alan Jackson is a man of consistency and he’s doing it again with this track. The song is slow and sad, but there is real emotion in the story and I think people will connect with it. Stay tuned later in the year because this track is going straight up the charts for the first legit hit for Alan in a few years.

6. Dancing Away With My Heart – Lady Antebellum

These guys just keep pumping out the hits. It will be interesting to see if the trio stays together for the long haul. I’m sure there have been calls to break up the two lead singers and have them go solo, but it seems like the three bandmates get along well and with songs like Dancing I’m sure they’ll continue their domination on the charts in 2012. There really is no stopping this band. They’ve quickly become one of the biggest acts in all of music.

5. My Heart Can’t Tell You No – Sara Evans

This one is probably a bit of a surprise, but I think the slow climbing single will become one of the biggest in the new year. Sara Evans has had her ups and downs and I think it will be the story of this song that really makes it one of the best of 2012. The track is a cover of the classic Rod Steward version from over 20 years ago. Sara does a great job with the vocals and really re-established herself as a leading lady in country.

4. Alone With You – Jake Owen

Jake Owen changed directions in 2011 and he’s still looking good heading into 2012. This track is breaking into the top 20 and looks to be on its way to possibly reaching the #1 spot. It would be two in a row for Jake Owen. After a couple years of up and down performance on the charts it looks like this country star is finding some lasting success.

3. Drink On It – Blake Shelton

Mr. Miranda Lambert has another hit on his hands and I’m sure this track will be huge. Blake is having the kind of career right now where he’ll be a superstar for years. He’s crossing over into TV and who knows how far he can take this career. Blake has been doing this for over a decade now and really didn’t come into this kind of status until last year. I don’t think he’s going to let this get away from him.

2. Over You – Miranda Lambert

I had to give the nod to Mrs. Blake Shelton on this one. This track is really a combination of both Blake and Miranda’s talents since they co-wrote the song together. The song should be one of the best of 2012 and will probably have a chance to win some awards. The story will be having the newlyweds both up on stage receiving the award, but the song is really something special. Great job by Miranda Lambert.

1. You Don’t Know Her Like I Do – Brantley Gilbert

I just can’t say enough about what Brantley Gilbert is doing right now. He wasn’t the first to really bring the hard rock chords into country, but he’s taking the lead and really pushing things to a different place in country music. If you’ve ever been to a rock show in the rural USA you know there are fans out there that their heavy rock and heavy country. There is a place in this world for a mixture. And where there’s hard rock there are also a few monster ballads and that’s exactly what You Don’t Know Her Like I Do is. Great, great song.
