Mitchell Tenpenny

Did you have a truck like this?

One of my favorite songs of 2017 was Bitches by Mitchell Tenpenny.

I know it’s a curse word. I know it’s a little crude.

But once you make it past the title and get into the song…well it’s still a little vulgar, but if you can get past that then you’re in for a treat.

Catchy. Fun. It’s great.

And I wouldn’t say it’s just about women. I certainly know a lot of men that fit the bill.

Anyway, it’s time to look at another song from Mitchell. This one seems to be the next one that was put out and the one that was next most popular for him on Spotify.

Truck I Drove In High School – Mitchell Tenpenny

This one should be a little more radio-friendly. It looks like Mitchell is with the team at Riser House. That’s gotta be a small label in the country world, but you never know these days. There are a handful of songs on the chart from indies. And there are more artists that at least started out with an indie.

Anyway, how catchy is this song?

It looks like Mitchell has been cutting his teeth as a songwriter. And he’s had success including co-writing a hit with Granger Smith.

The title is apt for this one. It’s about still driving the truck you drove in high school. Or maybe looking back on those times and wishing you still had that truck. It probably wasn’t the prettiest. It probably didn’t always run just right. But it was freedom and it was fun.

Great memories and images. Just a great song from a great new artist.

Chart Estimate: #30

CML Points: 87/100
