Easton Corbin is releasing a new record later this year. That’s exciting news. I’ve been a fan of Easton’s since he first came out on the scene a few years ago. He’s like a modern day George Strait just playing straight ahead country music, which is something most artists aren’t doing these days.
But one thing that threw me for a loop a year or so ago was that Easton’s second record was abandoned after only two singles. The singles were incredibly successful. Both were top five hits. But after the second had its run at the top of the charts things got quiet.
I owned the record and I kept thinking, “This could be a single. This one could be a single too…” I didn’t know what was going on.
Since then Easton released a song and it did alright, but not as well as his other singles. And now he has another one climbing the charts. I think that one will continue doing well.
But I keep going back to that second record thinking there were more hits on it.
Here is one of those would-be hits. It’s Tulsa, Texas. I remember back in 2011 seeing Easton live and he played this one. He seemed real fond of it. Now, it’s not like any other country song you’ll hear today, but it’s catchy and memorable. I think people would have liked it.
It’s about a guy that realizes he needs to get away from this girl. Whatever the reason – she’s not the one or he’s just the leaving kind – he has to get away and the hook of the song is that he really doesn’t let her know where.
