This is my first introduction to Frank Foster. His latest album debuted on the country charts recently and that always gets my attention. Independent artists seem to be getting their albums on that chart more and more often, which is pretty cool.
The title of Frank’s latest album is Good Country Music. You know a title like that will get my attention and after listening to a few songs on the album I think it’s a very apt title.
Let’s check out the first track on the record.
Unwind – Frank Foster
The song seems to be about Frank’s feeling about country music. It seems that his influences are what really drive him and that means some of the best country music singers and songs from the ’60s, ’70s and even into the ’80s and ’90s. There is good country music from every era. Sometimes it gets a little more pop, but that traditional sound is always there with a few artists.
And Frank seems to be bringing his style of traditional country to the forefront on this song. It’s got a sound that you can’t really pin on a certain era. His voice sounds a little like Waylon and even a little Billy Ray Cyrus (an underrated voice from country’s past).
I really like this song. I can get on board with Frank bringing back the tradition and the heart back to country. I’d put on a little Frank and unwind. That seems like a good way to spend some time.
