Walker Hayes is Ready for Summer

March 14, 2011 by Dayne Shuda

Walker Hayes is switching to shorts.

Walker Hayes SummerLast fall Walker reached the country top 40 with his debut song Pants. Now Walker is happily switching from pants to board shorts, sunglasses, and flip flops for his next single.

Why Wait For Summer is the latest track from Walker Hayes. The song is hitting radio just in time for the summer months. It’s already making an appearance on the charts in the country top 50 and perhaps it will keep rising throughout the summer and maybe even become a huge summer of 2011 hit.

WWhy Wait For Summer reminds me of the songs that used to come out in the early part of the ’00s. It’s fun. It’s pop-country. It’s really a pretty good song. I’ve never had an issue with upbeat country. The track has a good rhythm and even though some of the images in the song are familiar I think the song works well.

Why Wait For Summer sounds like a song that came out in 2002 from Phil Vassar, Keith Urban, or even Shane Minor. I mean that to be a compliment to Walker. He seems to be looking for the same kind of success those artists have had on the charts. This kind of pop-country is nothing to be ashamed of. When it comes to having fun country fans are ready, willing, and able to party during the summer months.

I for one am ready for summer. Here in Wisconsin we’ve had a long, cold winter with tons of snow. I don’t know if we’ll be outside much until we’re a good way into April. I don’t want to wait for summer. I’ll probably be out there grilling when they’re still snow on the ground. Perhaps I’ll even have to take an early spring break like Walker Hayes in Why Wait For Summer.

What do you think of the new track?
