Some days I feel like a really bad country music fan. I had no idea this song and video existed until today. Not even sure where I found it, but you may have heard it before. Since it’s Wednesday and that’s our day to look at songs that really weren’t singles I though this one would fit.
When I Was Your Man – Thomas Rhett
If you recognize the song it’s the smash hit from Bruno Mars on the pop charts. I mean…this song was a huge hit for the last few years. And it’s also not an easy song to cover. But you have to give Thomas credit for really nailing it on this recording.
Thomas has been saying that he’s a fan of Bruno for a while now. And Thomas’s latest single Crash And Burn sees him really stepping into that type of sound. He mentioned somewhere that he was scared how country fans would react. But he’s not afraid to make the music he likes and hears in his head. You have to credit a guy for being able to do that.
These folks are artists. They feel pain and they hear what fans say. They don’t want to disappoint anybody, but they have to do what they feel is right for them. So this song was risky, but I like it.
It was Willie Nelson that said that there are two kinds of music – good and bad.
This is an example of a good song. And I’m glad we have Thomas associated with the country world no matter how we categorize his music.
Great performance.

Smart Rhett…. more success headed your way.
