They made a big debut. Now it’s time for the followup.
Runaway June’s debut single made it to #28 on the radio charts earlier this year.
Now, that may not seem like a huge deal, but I heard somewhere that it’s the first time since the Dixie Chicks that a female trio has had a debut single reach the top 30.
That’s crazy.
I don’t know if the cycle has fully come around just yet, but it seems like there are too many great female acts out there right now. They have to start taking over soon.
Here is the second single from this talented trio.
Wild West – Runaway June
The whole hook on this one is what you would think from the title. I think at the core it’s a love song that plays on the idea of the Wild West.
The girl in the song is ready for her guy to be her cowboy. Ready to ride her off into the sunset. She knows that he might have a few flaws. A little bit of stoicism. A little bit of a taste for the whiskey.
But she’s ready for that to be part of her life.
So that’s what’s going on with the lyrics.
The song is good. It’s catchy. The more I listen the more it sticks in my head. And these woman have some good harmonies. It kind of reminds me of the Dixie Chicks a little bit. Obviously DC was one of a kind, but Runaway June could have something here.
What do you think of this new trio and their next single?
Chart Estimate: #20
CML Points: 85/100
