Cody Johnson is one of the last remaining cowboys in country music. He’s been making his mark on Texas country for a really long time. His fans love him. It’s kind of shame that the mainstream country audience doesn’t know more about him.
He has the songs including a new one from the album he released back in August of last year. I think the song has been out for a bit of time. I wish I would have discovered it sooner. It’s a good one.
With You I Am – Cody Johnson
This is a pretty good love song. And it’s hard to pull off love songs these days. They tend to really easily fall into the cliche side of things. But this one from Cody seems fresh and new while also seeming simple and not forced.
The melody is great as well. It just kind of rolls along. I can imagine a guy and a girl just kind of hanging out on the porch or in the backyard together. They’re looking into each other’s eyes and nothing else exists. They’re happy with the way things have turned out. They are great alone, but they are even better together.
And that’s what the song is really about. It’s a guy who was trying to figure things out in his early days. Maybe he thought he did have it figured out, but now that he’s with this woman he knows that she makes him the best possible man he can be.
Pretty cool stuff. I like this one.
